Palindrome at Night Lights

                                                                                                 Palindrome, 2006

Palindrome exhibited twice in Boston in the year it was made. I changed course a little after that, and moved, and traveled, and did the Fulbright thing, so along with my other video sculptures, it was effectively shelved until this January, when John Jota LeaƱos selected Palindrome for his exhibition at Headlands Center for the Arts. I was pleased as punch then, and likewise now that Dorothy Santos included it in her curatorial bids for last nights Night Light Multimedia Garden Party at SOMArts. My thanks to the both of them for bringing it back... and inciting more...

Signal Mountain

Signal Mountain, Helen Scarsdale | Oilly Oowen 2013

Signal Mountain-- Jim Haynes and my single-channel edit of our 30-minute expanded cinema performance @ SFMOMA-- somehow headlined a pretty impressive line-up last weekend at Other Cinema. An intense capper on an otherwise playful evening, she sure got a lot of nice compliments! (View linked image above.) John Davis + Craig Baldwin's live 16mm / sound performance was top-shelf to say the least.
Artist Television Access, thanks for having us.

Reporting From Spring, 2013

Few transmissions coming from OOwen Labs these days, I know. Things have been a lit-tle busy...
So first things first:

Coming up this weekend, 04.20.2013:

Jim Haynes + I will be screening a world premiere of a single-channel video based on our recent performance at SFMOMA. At Other Cinema / Artist Television Access

The following weekend, 04.27.2013:
My videosculpture, Palindrome, will be part of SOMArts' annual multimedia garden party.

Among the good things below, I’m proud to announce that I’ve just been awarded an Individual Artist Grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission. This support will make it possible to complete my project, The Beginning Was The End, including Lukman Aris’ translation of my diagrams into Javanese and the polishing of my Hypercube sculptures in Los Angeles, not to mention the mounting of the exhibition. My supreme gratitude to everyone at the SFAC! to Kevin Chen at Intersection for the Arts! and, of course, to all of you.
My aforementioned diagrams went directly from a show at Headlands Center for the Arts to a 3-month-long exhibition at Stanford University's Institutefor Computational Mathematics + Engineering; details on the opening soon come.

Now without further ado: a brief review for you of what I have been up to…
