After chasing them a while, I inserted the flat salmon into the disc
drive on my laptop and watched as the fish slowly emerged on the screen.
It wasn't the image of the fish, but more the presence or its
impression-- I did it with all the others (maybe 9?) before I wondered
how I'd use my computer again, or if I could hit escape and eject
them...

hum about mine ears
Be not afeard; the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices
That, if I then had waked after long sleep,
Will make me sleep again: and then, in dreaming,
The clouds methought would open and show riches
Ready to drop upon me that, when I waked,
I cried to dream again.

OUT-OF-ORDER
Opening Reception and Screening:
Thursday, May 16, 2013, 5:00 - 7:00 pm
Project Dates: May 16 - June 1, 2013
Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 12:00 - 6:00 pm
Lead Teaching Artist: Allison Leigh Holt
Assistant Teaching Artist: Jonathan Weisburst
AIE Intern: Kelley O'Leary
In negotiating our human experience, we order our reality and express meaning through several languages: the spoken and written word, moving images, time and physical space. Behaviors that begin quite naturally can easily descend into routine. How do these limits affect our perception?
Through the absurdist spirit of DADA, OUT-OF-ORDER explores experimental video as a tool for interpreting and subverting conventional modes of perception, reordering these standardized languages and presenting them anew. The exhibition showcases the artists' experimental process as well as its products. Parameters, Disruption, and Interpretation: students are developing sets of basic working principles, exercising those structures across different media, then deliberately reinterpreting those structures through video. OUT-OF-ORDER points to our habits of thinking, reminding us to reorder them and challenge ourselves toward new visions.
SoEx's Youth Advisory Board is a youth-driven afterschool program where students collaborate with professional artists to produce an art exhibition at SoEx. This Spring, YAB is producing an experimental video project with teaching artists Allison Leigh Holt and Jonathan Weisburst, in conversation with an upcoming Fall 2013 SoEx project: Difficult to Make Out. The YAB project, OUT-OF-ORDER , seeks to challenge the thought systems that determine the nature of our experience. The project is the culmination of experimental processes and exercises across different media, and the final reception will present these experiments as well as a screening of student work.

Greetings, all.
Strange Loops, an exhibition of my current series of diagrams from The Beginning Was The End will have its opening reception (and brief presentation) on 05.10.2013 from 5 - 7pm at Stanford University's Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering (ICME).
The work is on view at the ICME from 03.15 – 06.15.2013.
If anyone reading this makes the trek out to this far-flung, auspicious locale I will be extremely pleased!

Palindrome at Night Lights
![]() |
Palindrome, 2006 |
Palindrome exhibited twice in Boston in the year it was made. I changed course a little after that, and moved, and traveled, and did the Fulbright thing, so along with my other video sculptures, it was effectively shelved until this January, when John Jota Leaños selected Palindrome for his exhibition at Headlands Center for the Arts. I was pleased as punch then, and likewise now that Dorothy Santos included it in her curatorial bids for last nights Night Light Multimedia Garden Party at SOMArts. My thanks to the both of them for bringing it back... and inciting more...

Signal Mountain-- Jim Haynes and my single-channel edit of our 30-minute expanded cinema performance @ SFMOMA-- somehow headlined a pretty impressive line-up last weekend at Other Cinema. An intense capper on an otherwise playful evening, she sure got a lot of nice compliments! (View linked image above.) John Davis + Craig Baldwin's live 16mm / sound performance was top-shelf to say the least.
Artist Television Access, thanks for having us.

My videosculpture, Palindrome, will be part of SOMArts' annual multimedia garden party.
Among the good things below, I’m proud to announce that I’ve
just been awarded an Individual Artist Grant from the San Francisco
Arts Commission. This support will make it possible to complete my project, The Beginning Was The End, including Lukman Aris’ translation of my diagrams into
Javanese and the polishing of my Hypercube sculptures in Los Angeles, not to
mention the mounting of the exhibition. My supreme gratitude to everyone at the
SFAC! to Kevin Chen at Intersection for the Arts! and, of course, to all of
you.
My aforementioned diagrams went directly from a show at
Headlands Center for the Arts to a 3-month-long exhibition at Stanford
University's Institutefor Computational Mathematics + Engineering; details on
the opening soon come.
Now without further ado: a brief review for you of what I
